Kaelepulu Elementary had a limited budget of $4,000. They knew a mural wasn't affordable, so they decided to let me take a look and make proposal.

After getting some feedback from the faculty and the children, I had a concept direction; the courtyard area was their school meeting area, symbolizing a global community of cultures, relationships, and challenges.

If you look at the before and after pictures, you'll see that the courtyard around the flagpole lacked color. With the budget in mind, I proposed that we have each child paint an 8 inch x 10 tile with the flag design of their choice from different countries around the world in addition, they would then have to study about that country and tell me about that country while painting the tile.

As you can see, this concept really added color to the courtyard while staying within a fixed budget and enhanced the global community concept while educating the children about different countries, cultures, and relationships.

109 children from grades kindergarten through 3rd grade participated in this very successful project.

I think it is important to note that although most of the murals I do cost $10,000 and up, there are ways to work within a budget. I never hurts to try!
